Sharjah utilities - 2026 tariffs
Estimate your SEWA bill in seconds
Work out your monthly Sharjah electricity, water and gas charges with the published 2026 SEWA slab rates - both fuel surcharges, the municipal sewage fee and 5% VAT all itemised.
Calculate your monthly SEWA bill
Enter the figures from your latest SEWA bill and press calculate. Every line - consumption, service charges, municipal fees and VAT - is shown separately.
Your monthly usage
Pre-filled with typical Sharjah averages. Replace them with the readings from your latest SEWA bill or smart meter. The optional fields cover the extra lines that can appear on a bill.

VAT is charged at 5% on the electricity, water and gas charges. The sewage management fee and the Sharjah Municipality charges are added outside VAT.

How this SEWA bill calculator works
Three steps from your meter reading to an itemised monthly estimate.
Enter your usage
Type your monthly electricity (kWh) and water use from your latest SEWA bill or smart meter. SEWA bills water in imperial gallons, not cubic metres.
Add your optional charges
Add the meter or service charges, piped gas and municipal fees shown on your bill, and mark whether the sewage management fee applies to you - UAE nationals are exempt.
Read your itemised estimate
We apply the published slab rates and both surcharges, add 5% VAT, then the sewage fee and municipal charges, and show every line separately.
What makes up your SEWA bill
A SEWA bill is more than kilowatt-hours and gallons. These are the building blocks behind the total.
Electricity consumption
Charged on a progressive four-slab tariff (23-38 fils per kWh), so higher monthly usage costs more per unit. SEWA colour-codes the bands green, yellow, orange and red.
Water consumption
Billed per imperial gallon on a three-slab tariff (3.5-4.6 fils per gallon) - unlike Dubai, which moved to cubic metres in 2025. One cubic metre is about 220 imperial gallons.
Service charges
A 6 fils charge is added to every kWh of electricity and 0.5 fils to every gallon of water, on top of the slab rates. Both are part of the amount that VAT is charged on.
Sewage management fee
Since 1 April 2025 the Sharjah Executive Council has added a 1.5 fils per gallon sewage management fee, charged on the water volume on your bill. UAE nationals are exempt.
Piped gas
SEWA supplies piped natural gas across much of Sharjah city and bills it monthly. SEWA publishes no residential gas table, so enter the amount from your bill - buildings on LPG cylinders have no gas line at all.
VAT
5% VAT applies to the electricity, water and gas charges, including the fuel surcharges - not to the sewage fee or the Sharjah Municipality charges.
2026 SEWA tariff slabs at a glance
The rates SEWA publishes on its own energy calculator, plus the municipal sewage fee and 5% VAT. Slabs reset every month, so a heavy month does not raise the next month's opening rate.

How Sharjah electricity, water and gas charges work, and what this estimator includes.
How is my SEWA bill calculated?
A SEWA bill charges your consumption on the published slab rates, adds a fuel surcharge on each unit of electricity and water, and applies 5% VAT. Per-utility service charges and Sharjah Municipality charges – the sewage management fee on your water volume plus public hygiene – appear as separate lines, with the municipal fees outside VAT.
What are the SEWA electricity slab rates in 2026?
SEWA publishes 23 fils per kWh for the first 2,000 kWh, 28 fils for 2,001-4,000 kWh, 32 fils for 4,001-6,000 kWh and 38 fils above 6,000 kWh, plus a 6 fils per kWh surcharge. SEWA’s own energy calculator colour-codes these bands green, yellow, orange and red.
How is water billed in Sharjah?
Water is billed per imperial gallon on three slabs: 3.5 fils for the first 6,000 gallons, 4.0 fils for 6,001-12,000 gallons and 4.6 fils above 12,000 gallons, plus a 0.5 fils per gallon surcharge. SEWA still uses gallons – one cubic metre is about 220 imperial gallons, so switch the water unit in the calculator if your meter reads m3.
What is the new sewage management fee?
Since 1 April 2025 SEWA has billed a sewage management service fee of 1.5 fils per gallon of water consumption – about AED 3.30 per cubic metre. It was introduced by a Sharjah Executive Council amendment to Council Decision No. 5 of 2013 and applies to expatriate accounts; all UAE nationals are exempt. The fee follows the water volume on your bill, so a leak or heavy irrigation shows up twice.
Does SEWA charge a housing fee like DEWA?
No. Sharjah does not add Dubai’s 5% housing fee to utility bills. Expat households in Sharjah pay the 1.5 fils per gallon sewage management fee instead, which is usually much smaller. Sharjah’s municipal tenancy charges are handled separately at contract registration, not on the monthly SEWA statement.
Do I pay VAT on my SEWA bill?
Yes – 5% VAT applies to the electricity, water and gas charges, including the fuel surcharges. The sewage management fee and the Sharjah Municipality charges are added outside VAT.
Is piped gas on my SEWA bill?
Only if your building is connected to the piped network. SEWA is the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority and meters natural gas on the same monthly statement. SEWA publishes no residential gas table, so enter the amount (or the units multiplied by the rate) from your own bill. Buildings on LPG cylinders have no gas line at all.
Why is my SEWA bill higher in summer?
Air conditioning can push a household past 2,000 kWh, moving part of the usage into the 28, 32 and 38 fils slabs while the 6 fils surcharge applies to every extra unit. Water use and the sewage fee rise with irrigation and pool top-ups too. The slab breakdown in the result panel shows exactly where your usage sits.
Is SEWA cheaper than DEWA?
The two emirates price utilities differently. Dubai bills water by the cubic metre and adds a 5% housing fee based on your annual rent; Sharjah bills water by the imperial gallon and adds the 1.5 fils per gallon sewage management fee instead. Electricity is slabbed in both emirates, but the rates and the fees around them are not the same. Run the same monthly usage through our DEWA bill calculator to see the difference for your property.
Estimate only. This tool applies the slab rates, fuel surcharges and municipal fee that SEWA publishes to the numbers you enter. Real bills can also include per-utility service charges, deposits, previous balances, adjustments and meter-testing or reconnection fees, and SEWA rounds the amount due up to the next dirham. Always confirm against your official SEWA bill or the SEWA energy calculator.
