Frequently asked questions about Dubai taxis
For standard Dubai (RTA) street hail taxis, the flag fall is AED 5.00 during daytime hours (06:00 AM – 10:00 PM) and AED 5.50 during nighttime hours (10:00 PM – 06:00 AM). If booked via the Careem/Hala app, flag fall ranges from AED 8.00 (off-peak) to AED 12.00 (peak/night). Dubai taxis automatically pass through Salik electronic toll gates across highways like Sheikh Zayed Road and Airport Tunnel. Each Salik toll crossing costs exactly AED 4.00, which the meter adds automatically to your trip total without any driver markups.
Yes. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) enforces a minimum trip charge of AED 12.00 for all street hail taxis. If you take a very short hop where the calculated flag fall and distance total is below AED 12.00, the meter automatically floors the total to AED 12.00.
Yes. Every public taxi in Dubai is fitted with a digital payment terminal. You can pay with contactless credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard), Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, your RTA Nol card, or cash.
Estimate Disclaimer: This calculator estimates fares based on published RTA Dubai taxi tariffs, DTC franchise rates, and Salik toll fees. Actual meter totals may vary depending on exact route taken by the driver, live traffic bottlenecks, waiting times, and dynamic Hala booking surges during major city events.
